Note: Sturgeon is now, and was at the time of this Census, a part of Owsley County, Kentucky. Lee County, Kentucky was formed from Breathitt, Estill, Owsley, and Wolfe Counties on March 1, 1870. John's grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Phillips was the first judge appointed when Lee became a new Kentucky county.
