Thomas Philpot pension application (part)
Selected pages from the pension documents of Thomas Philpot who was living in Clay County in 1837. These pages refer to Brazil Estes appearing in the Clay County Court on the 5th of April, 1837 where he declared under oath, "that he knew the said applicant in the Revolution at the Siege of 96 and knows he was in the service during the siege under Capt. Williams and after the war they became neighbors and often talked over their service and always understood from him and others that he served about 15 months in the Revolution . . ." The court decided, "And the said Court certifies that after hearing the whole matter of the application for a pension of the said Thomas Philpot that it is the opinion of the Court that the said applicant was a soldier of the Revolution and that he served as he states and further cerify that the said witness Brazeal Eastis is a credible person and of age sufficient to have been in the Revolution . . ."
