    • I believe the 1786 date may be wrong. While researching John Northcutt in Virginia Personal Property records I stumbled across a Joseph Oder living in the same tax district in Fauguier County, VA. Joseph Oder, John Northcutt and John Barnes (in neighboring Culpeper County, VA; Joseph was married to the sister of John Barnes) all relocated to Harrison County, Kentucky. In 1841, Milly Barnes, wife of John Barnes, gave deposition in Harrison County, Kentucky that the family moved to Bourbon County KY about 1795 or 1796 before settling in Harrison County. It is quite possible that these families moved together in a group or in quick succession. 1796 is a more likely date.

In the Virginia Personal Property Tax Lists, John Northcutt disappears from the Fauquier County, VA lists in 1796. Joseph Oder still appears to be in the list that year but the name spelling appears a little different (not unusual); the number of tithables and horses he owned matches the previous year.
