  1. 1.  Caroline Wells about 1871 Kentucky (daughter of John Wells and Martha Pierce).

    Other Events:

    • Residence: 12 Jun 1880, Menifee County, Kentucky

    Notes:

Caroline may have married someone by the name of Len or Leonard Roe Ginter who was born 21 Aug 1873 in Kentucky. This family can be traced from Menifee County to Ohio. The name spellings vary somewhat from year to year on the census but you can tell it is the same family. There is a 1930 Death Certificate for Caroline Ginter who died in Milford, Butler County, Ohio on 15 May 1930. The informant was probably her son, Charles. The parents' names were given as Richard Wells and Juline . While that may be entirely correct and the Caroline described in that death certificate may be someone other than the daughter of John Wells and Martha Pierce, I think the informant was just going on whatever information he could muster since his grandfather, if John Wells, died several years before Charles and his grandmother, if Martha Pierce, died the same year that Charles was born.

The full birth date of Len Roe Ginter, b. 21 Aug 1873, Kentucky comes from a World War I draft registration card in which he also names his wife as Caroline.

You'll see the last name spelled Ginter, Gunter and probably some other variations. Caroline will appear as Casey, Caroline, and Lynn. Caroline's age in all of the census records put her at about 5 years older than the earliest census showing John Wells and Martha Pierce with a daughter named Caroline who was listed as 9 years old in 1880.

The family is buried at Hill Grove Cemetery in Miamisburg, Montgomery County, Ohio. You can see photos of the Ginter cemetery markers at Find A Grave.

Andrew served with the Union Army during the Civil War (1862-1864).

On his death certificate, his date of birth is listed as January 4, 1835.

He was the youngest of 10 children born to Jacob and Barbara Ellen (Sagaser) Pierce.

According to the 1910 Arkansas Census, Andrew was married 3 times. I only know of Mary Ann Adams (married 1859) and Margaret Lucinda Crawford (married 1890), so I'm guessing the marriage in question took place before 1859.
