    Notes:

    Died:
A search request in June of 2012 for a death certificate presented to Mayes County, Oklahoma resulted in a failure to locate that record. The only evidence currently of Mary's date and place of death is from a cemetery marker in the Alberty Cemetery. This is further supported by Mary's presence in the area as indicated by the 1910 Census when she was living with one of her daughters.

    Notes:

    Married:
Purportedly, Richard Combs appears on the "Perry County, Kentucky Groom's Index." Multiple citations on the Internet, no images of the document found online, all cite January, 1839 with variations on the actual day in January.

The above ought to be verifiable with microfilm from the Family History Library:

(DJS) Use caution with this record. Much documentation exists for membership to the NSSAR under ancestors of Mathew Combs. These applications state that Mathew died in Breathitt County, Kentucky in 1859. This 1860 Census record shows a Moses Combs within two years of the age of Mathew Combs. I believe it is highly likely that these are the same person between the 1850-1860 census enumerations. BOTH Mathew (1850 Census) and Moses (1860 Census) have a wife named Frances who was born in Georgia. The birth state of the Mathew/Moses vary though. The most compelling bit of information is that in both of these census years, the person named Mathew (1850) and Moses (1860) is recorded as being blind.
Use your own judgement; I welcome input.

    Notes:

    Died:
The widely quoted death date of 25 June 1850 is clearly incorrect. Joseph was alive on the 3rd of August, 1850 and was enumerated that date on the 1850 Census living in Breathitt County, Kentucky along with his wife, father-in-law, Stephen Hogg Sr, and many other close family members in other homes enumerated on the same census page.

    Buried:
Note the incorrect death date on this stone that was placed at a later date. Joseph was still alive in August of 1850; see census image linked on this page.

    • Miscellaneous: 1848, Kentucky; Visited Kentucky
    • Residence: 1850, Greene County, Indiana; Henry may still have been living in 1850.

    Notes:

    Personal Property Taxation:
Benjamin Clements was not found in the 1788 Personal Property Tax Lists in Montgomery County.

    Residence:
Based upon the research of others but backed up by the interviews of family members by the Reverend John Jay Dickey, this appears to be the Henry Combs and perhaps some other relatives living in Greene County, Indiana.

    Residence:
The family members enumerated with the Henry Combs listed in Greene County, Indiana may have been a third wife and their children or perhaps just some older children in the family - maybe even children from a deceased wife's family. Without additional documents, this census enumeration raises more questions than it answers. There's a reference to his birth in South Carolina but the oldest female member of this family was recorded as being born in Kentucky. This document may also serve to discredit the 1840 Census as being the correct Henry Combs and family. What is known is that Henry was still living in 1848 and he visited, from his home in Indiana, his family in Kentucky. Family members stated that he visited, not that he died in Kentucky. Henry may well have returned to Indiana and still been alive for the 1850 Census enumeration. Use both census enumerations, 1840 & 1850 with discretion (DJS - May 8, 2013).

    Died:
Source is NSSAR Applications. Perry County, Kentucky is also a possibility but it appears that Henry only came back to Kentucky for a "visit" and probably went back to Indiana.

Henry Rachael Clements 21 Sep 1788Montgomery County, Virginia. Other Events:

    • Residence: 3 Aug 1850, Breathitt County, Kentucky

    Notes:

    Name:
Some sources say Robinson. The family seems to come from TN and VA before that. If the family name is traced back to Virginia, it may well belong to the Robinson family beginning with Christopher Robinson who, in the 1660s, settled around Urbanna in Middlesex County. This potential association is only early speculation.

    Birth:
Catherine's death record does not name her parents but does list her birth place as Tennessee.

This area became a part of Tennessee when it gained statehood in 1796.

    Notes:

1/25/2011 - Marriage place is speculation based on Internet data suggesting that John and Catharine moved to KY in 1836. Marriage could have taken place in TN or VA, among other places.

    Children:
    1. Mary Back 12 Dec 1798 Virginia; after 1862.

    • Residence: 7 Aug 1820, Floyd County, Kentucky
    • Residence: 1840, Perry County, Kentucky
    • Residence: 3 Aug 1850, Breathitt County, Kentucky

    Notes:

    Residence:
Stephen Hogg's name appears on the second line, behind what is probably "clear" tape or a page that wasn't lying flat during the scan process. The name appears in indexes at Ancestry.Com, FamilySearch.org and Heritage Quest.

    Died:
A "copyist" clearly transferred the names of the parents on the right page of the register out of sequence with the list of children's names on the left register page. By comparing the names of the male children and minor, girl children (still maintaining their maiden names) you will notice the parents names are shifted up one line. There is a smudge on the parent name corresponding with Stephen Hogg. That parent's name appears to be Polly Hogg OR Hagg, Polly being the common nickname for Mary.
