    According to his son, Olaf Johnson was a merchant seamen who jumped ship in Texas with another crew member and remained in the country. 
    • Olaf arrived aboard the S.S. Leka. Two and one half years later, on September 24th, 1917, the Leka was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine, UC-71, without warning; 17 lives were lost.
