    Colonel James Wood registers or grants a pass for Francis Meadows who reported that his time of service had expired and that he had escaped imprisonment at Charles Town. Francis was granted a pass until such time that a rendezvous with his company could be arranged and an inquiry be made into his enlistment.

    Some time about 1787, Francis Meadows sent a request to the Auditor of Accounts in Richmond, Virginia to deliver any certificates due for pay and land to Captain John Hopkins.

    On 26 February 1787, Francis appeared before Benjamin Harrison, a Justice of the Peace in Rockingham County, Virginia, whereby he signed and acknowledged the order [the request to forward payment due for services to Captain John Hopkins].

    L. Hawes, formerly of L. Company, 1st Virginia Regiment, certified that Francis Meadows enlisted about the first of January 1777 and continued in the original 10th Virginia Regiment where he was captured by the British at Charles Town and later made his escape; his term of service being expired.

    A note from 14 Nov 1788 indicates that the claim had not yet been settled.

    • I am not currently aware of the children of Francis Meadows Jr. but, if he had a son by the same name, then a land record in Monroe County, Virginia can probably be attributed to him. The record indicates that this 50 acres was adjacent to land that he already owned there.
